Just five days before my 58th birthday, I was diagnosed with stage 4 TP-53 mutated Mantle Cell Lymphoma, a rare and aggressive form of non-Hodgkin lymphoma. What started as routine bloodwork with my personal care physician turned into life-changing news.
My local oncologist suggested that I seek a specialist, and that led me to MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas, where I met Dr. Michael Wang. From our very first meeting, Dr. Wang’s confidence gave me hope. He assured me that remission was possible and that he was determined to find a cure for MCL. His groundbreaking research, including three FDA-approved treatments, strengthened my faith in the fight ahead.
The journey hasn’t been easy. Side effects from treatments and infusions have been tough, but I have never faced them alone. The support of my local oncologist, my nurse navigator, my family, and my friends carried me through every challenge.
Today, I am 2 1/2 years into remission. I have completed my treatments and maintenance phase of the immunotherapy drugs and infusions. I live every day with gratitude. I treasure every moment with my wife, children, and grandchildren.
Even in the face of aggressive cancer, hold onto faith and hope, lean on your support system, and never stop fighting.
Support organizations that fight for cures and help bring hope to more families.
